IUB clinches Inter-University business title

Students of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have won the first prize in the first ATDP-AIUB Inter University Business Plan Competition. The participants of the winning team of IUB are Abdullah Ibneyy Shahid, Noorjahan Begum, and Nazia Tariq. The winners were awarded with crests and cash prizes at the AIUB auditorium held recently. The inter-university business plan competition is a replication of three agri-business plan competition, accomplished by agro-based Industries and Technology Dev. Project (ATDP), USAID. Objectives of the competition were to generate interest in entrepreneurship amongst university students, identify potential business ideas, and people with innovative ideas, improving students business writing skills and promoting and facilitating innovation and competition. An independent panel of judges representing ATDP clients, partners and USAID representatives evaluated the plans based on merits and contestants performance in oral presentation of the plans before the judging panels. The competition attracted over 44 contestants from seven leading universities of the country. The wining entry was a business plan under the title "Quality Mushroom". USAID Bangladesh mission Director Gene George attended the function as the Chief Guest. ATOP (Agro-based Industries and Technology Dev. Project) chief of Party Ron Gillespie and AIUB Vice Chancellor Dr. Carrnen Z Lamagna also attended the ceremony.


Rule of professional clubs on shaping students career lauded
Professional clubs of students play a vital role in shaping their personality as well as creativity, fellow feelings, cooperation and ability to work with others. Chairman of the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) Trust and former president of the Dhaka Club Towhid Samad made the observation while speaking at the inaugural function of a day-long combined Club Fair of the university in the city Wednesday. The IUB Chapter of AIESEC in association the Department of Student Affairs and the Media Wing organized the fair. For the first time, the university organized such a fair participated by all IUB clubs including Green Sphere, IUB Debating Club, Cricket Club, Drama Club, Literary Society, Art Club, Bangla Club, Dev. Com. Club, Business Students Society and AIESEC. The Department of Career Guidance and Placement and the Department of Student Affairs are also taking part in the fair. Speaking on the occasion, IUB Vice Chancellor Bazlul Mobin Chowdhury announced that from now on the fair would because an annual event of the university so that more and more students could take part in developing their extra-curricular talents.



IUB opens MBA course in Chittagong
Independent University , Bangladesh (IUB) inaugurated its MBA programme on its Chittagong campus recently. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury MP inaugurated the programme as chief guest. Chittagong Stock Exchange President and IUB Governing Council member Habib Ullah Khan, PHP Group chairman Alhaj Sufi Mizanur Rahman. IUB Ctg. Campus coordinator Prof. Syed Safdarul Huq, Registrar Dr. Tanvir A Khan, School of Business Director Dr. Nadim Jahangir and IUB Ctg MBA coordinator Dr. Ayub Islam were present as honorable guests. Elite of the city, teacher and students and executi9ves were present, says a press release.


Seminar at IUB held
Banking practice in the present day business world has totally changed and human resource management is to keep focus on it to meet the changing needs. This was observed by the participants at a seminar on "Human Resource Management and HSBC Recruitment Practice" at Independent University , Bangladesh (IUB) on Tuesday at its Baridhara campus.The keynote speaker was Syed Akhter Hasan Uddin Manager, Human Resources, Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC). The chief guest was Prof. Borhan Uddin, Director, School of Business , IUB. The seminar was presided over by Assoc. Professor Dr. Nadim Jahangir of the same school.The keynote speaker spoke on the banking environment in Bangladesh and their recruitment policy. Professor Borhan stated that this type of seminar would help the student’s understanding of human resources management of banks and enhance their knowledge of banking business practices.Business Students Society (BSS) a student forum of IUB School of Business, organized the seminar, says a press release.
